Here’s How The Solution Focused Approach Works With Any Problem

The most frequently asked question from people interested in SFBT always starts with “how do you use this approach with…”, this video should answer this for good.


yo today was really an exciting day is I hosted a Webinar,
um, and it was a webinar that was totally epic. So the topic was, or I should
say the title was the SFBT questions formula. And in this Webinar I shared my
exact formula, my thinking, my process, what’s going through my mind as I’m
asking solution focused questions, guiding my sessions. And it was amazing. We
had over 900 people sign up from all over the world. Like literally like every
country content. I mean, it’s crazy. It was absolutely crazy. And um, at the
end people were asking questions. They were brilliant questions. So interactive
and so awesome. And um, a lot of the questions start off with what do you do
when the client has x, y, Z, or what do you do if the client has dah, Dah, Dah.
And I want to like literally just completely answer that question and make sure
that anybody interested in solution focused brief therapy never has it again.

Because what I want to convey to people, and it was so
cool to be able to talk about it on this call. And it’s why I want to make a
video for anybody who wasn’t on the Webinar. You can hear it that in the
solution focused approach, who are interested in what the clients hope for
changes. We’re interested in the desired outcome. We’re interested in the
details were injured in the description. We’re interested in their strengths,
we’re interested in their answers. And that doesn’t change based upon the
client’s response. So we, in essence, we do the same thing and we go through
the same process regardless of the client problem. Now, every session is
different because what we do is based on the client responses, everything that
we do is based on what outcome the client says they hope to achieve. And the
way they answer their questions, we ask them about the presence of that desired
outcome.

But we are totally, totally, totally, um, so believing in
our clients that what we do is not going to change based upon, uh, the client’s
problem or the client’s diagnosis. Like. So I really, really want to make that
clear. It’s just like, and I was, I was thinking, how do I say this? So I’m on
my way to the gym right now and I’m working on a trainer and I’m working with a
trainer and I hired her because I’m on the road so much I needed to work out
that I could do that would be effective when I’m on the road and and keep me
kind of on track when I’m away from my home and thus away from the gym. And um,
when we first met, she asked me what my goal was and I told her really
audacious goal. Like I want to lose about 85 pounds and I want to do it in a
very specific time frame.

Like, I would like to do it in about three to four months.
And she did something really important is she conveyed that she believed in me,
she conveyed in that she thought I could do it and it didn’t change her
strategies. Like how I gained weight does not change the way her name is Nina
pod. There’s not changed the way menopause is going to instruct me and these
exercises because no matter how I gained the weight, these are the exercises you
do to lose it. Does that make sense? Like no matter how I gained this weight,
no matter how I got into shape, these are the things you need to do to get in
shape and to uh, and to lose weight. You do the same kind of sit ups and you do
the same process. You got to burn the same calories and the same cardio.

All that kind of stuff is the same. And that’s what I want
to get across. Like it doesn’t matter what problems brought your clients into
therapy. We’re gonna ask these questions because answering these questions
leads towards change regardless of what brought people into your office and
what brought people into your care. So please, please, please take that on. I
