Welcome back to Elliott Connie’s Real Talk and I’m here with my new friend Avery. And you guys know every so often we get to meet cool people where they can ask me a question. Avery, if you could ask any question that the answer to the question would help you, what would it be?
So what is the piece of advice that you would give to someone if they felt stuck in their Life?Okay, so lots of people come to therapy because they’re stuck. Lots of people feel stuck in their life. Lots of people buy self-help books. Do all the things. I guess my point is being stuck is a very common thing. So I would say two things. Number one, actually I’d say three things.
Number one, just take any action because if you’re feeling stuck, doing anything will get you inherently unstuck. Because just like if a ball is rolling downhill and it get stuck like literally any movement and it starts to roll again. Now are you rolling in the direction you wanna be? Who knows? But just becoming unstuck. It requires you to do something different. And when I say something different, literally like set your alarm for a different time and wake up at a different time of day.
Change some of the friends that you associate with. Pick up a new hobby. Like I don’t normally go to top golf, but now I’ll go to top golf. Like whatever, like doing something new and different will get you unstuck.
Number two I would say is start having thoughts about what your biggest dreams and life are and do things that move you closer to that dream. When I was driving here, like talking to a family member about what my life looked like when I was 19, very close to your age currently, and I could not have imagined my life now at 46, but if you can have the courage to like dream, like what do I want my life to be? Then you start doing things that are in line with this.
And I started thinking about becoming a Psychotherapist at 20 and I started doing things that would move my life in that direction. Now I was a thousand steps away, so I have to take step 1, 2, 3, so on and on. But now I’m a Psychotherapist and I got books, I travel the world and all that kinds of stuff. So think about like who does Avery wants to be, but what things can I do now that move my life in that direction?
Number three, I would say think back in your history and when are more time where I felt stuck and I felt really kind of held in. And what did I do to get myself out of that? Because if you’re 19, which not super old, but you’ve done some things, you’ve graduated from high school, got into college, you had a boyfriend or two, broken up with a boyfriend, two, whatever.
So like in your history, when I felt stuck and I didn’t wanna be in a situation, what did I do? And I guarantee you there are times in your life where you had like friends and you’re like, I’m not feeling this group anymore. Or you, you thought, I feel like I’m bored and you like signed up to play volleyball. Or you like, I feel pretty bored and I’m gonna do this new hobby.
Like you have a history that has already given you some example of how to do this. Yeah. And you need to remember that and then use those examples to you. Yeah. How’s that? Awesome. How dope is that? That’s That’s crazy. Wow. I’m good at what I do. Yeah. I feel like I’m ready to go. You’re ready, Averys. I’m ready to get unstuck.
So with that, thank you guys for watching. Avery is awesome. And stay tuned for the next time I run into somebody super cool and I get to answer their question. Avery. How cool is that. Thank you. Yeah, that’s so cool.
